Spiritual Self-Inquiry
Leslie Ihde LCSW, 15 Oakcrest Rd., Ithaca, NY  607.754.1303

                       Art and Perception  TBA

When we draw, paint or create art in any other way, we are picturing a meaning that rests inside of us.  In other words, our soul is communication to us.  In this group we will move upstream from manifest representation and make the effort to find the source of our inspiration.

We begin with simple instructions and a meditative art exercise.  The art exercise is then used as the basis of a reflective conversation-a guided inquiry if you will- aimed to foster self-discovery.  Each participant will keep an illuminated notebook of the exercises and the discoveries we make.  The notebook will also be a place to note perceptions and ideas.  We will use a variety of mediums.  You will be asked not to concern yourself with the quality of your artwork, at least not at first.  We are using art an a visual aide to active imagination explorations. Later, if your idea and exploration seem complete to you, you will be given an opportunity to fully realize the representation in an artistic work.  I will be available to you with artistic guidance, but more importantly to encourage your own insights.

The fee is $35 per group session.  On occasion I may ask you to pick something up before class, or bring something from home.  And sometimes there will be an additional materials fee, but like all artists, I love to take advantage of found objects and economic alternatives.
